How Many Eyes Do Spiders Have?

Spider Eyes

Nobody likes seeing a creepy crawler in their home. Running into a spider can be particularly spooky because of their unique looking body and number of eyes. But it turns out there are many myths about spiders and most spider species are relatively harmless! Although they may have a scary appearance to some, spiders are a super important part of our ecosystem, which includes communities of organisms like spiders and their environment. They also have a very diverse population, meaning you can come in contact with spiders of all sizes and colors, and even number of eyes!

It’s common knowledge that spiders have lots of legs, but how many eyes do spiders have? Depending on the species, it can be difficult to see how many eyes a spider has without a magnifying glass. While most species have eight eyes, some species may have fewer or even no eyes! Imagine what it would be like to watch your favorite show or play your favorite video game with eight eyes instead of two! How would it impact the way you see things?

Since spiders can’t turn their heads, these extra eyeballs have different functions and allow them to better see the world around them. Pretty cool, huh?
